Community Guidelines
Clavesta works when both sides can trust each other. These guidelines are part of our Terms of Use and apply to everyone: buyers, sellers, and anyone acting for them.
Last updated
Be who you say you are
In short: one real person, one account.
- Use your real name and your own email, and keep one account.
- Don’t pretend to be someone else or to represent someone you don’t.
- Don’t try to get around verification, a failed check or a suspension, for example by opening a new account.
List honestly
In short: only list a home you own or can sell, and describe it the way it really is.
- List only homes you own or are authorized to sell.
- Describe the home, its condition, the price and the terms accurately. Use current photos of the actual home.
- Be upfront about any existing mortgage or lien, and don’t describe a loan as assumable unless it is.
- Keep your listing current and mark it sold when it sells, on Clavesta or elsewhere.
- Buyers: be honest about your budget, down payment and timeline.
Keep money safe
In short: money moves only through escrow at closing, never person to person.
- Never ask for or send deposits, fees or payments outside escrow, including by wire, payment app, gift card or cryptocurrency.
- Never send or change wiring instructions in chat. Confirm them by phone with your title or escrow company, using a number you looked up yourself.
- Don’t ask for or share Social Security numbers, bank logins, card numbers or copies of IDs in chat.
- No money, deposits or documents change hands at a viewing.
Messages that ask for money outside escrow or share wiring details are blocked automatically.
Treat everyone fairly
In short: decide on the deal, never on who someone is.
Fair housing laws apply to private sales, and so does Clavesta’s policy. Don’t exclude, discourage, steer or treat anyone differently because of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, familial status (including having children), national origin, or any other characteristic protected where the home is located, such as age, marital status, source of income or military status.
- Don’t write things like “no kids,” “perfect for a young couple,” “Christian home” or “English speakers only.”
- Don’t ask about someone’s protected characteristics, and don’t comment on who lives in a neighborhood.
- Make reasonable accommodations for people with disabilities, for example in how and when a viewing happens.
- Describe the home and the terms, not the people you want to buy it.
Be respectful
In short: treat people the way you’d want to be treated in a big decision.
- No harassment, threats, intimidation, hate speech, or sexual or violent content.
- No pressure tactics, like false deadlines or demands to decide on the spot.
- If someone says no or ends a deal, respect it and don’t keep contacting them.
Protect privacy
In short: what’s shared in a deal stays in the deal.
- Use other members’ information only for your deal. Don’t post, sell or share it.
- Don’t share a home’s exact address or a member’s details with people who aren’t part of the deal (a trusted contact you name for a viewing is fine).
- Sellers: tell visitors about any cameras. Don’t record anyone’s voice without the consent your state requires.
- Don’t record calls or video tours without everyone’s consent.
Meet safely
In short: follow the viewing rules, and call 911 if you’re ever in danger.
- Meet in person only through a viewing confirmed in the app, after both of you complete verification, the safety check and the viewing acknowledgment. No self-guided or lockbox tours.
- Bring a friend or family member, go in daylight when you can, and share the visit with someone you trust.
- Sellers: put away valuables, medications and firearms, and secure pets.
- Buyers: no inspections or tests without the seller’s permission; you’re responsible for any damage.
- If something feels wrong, leave. Use “I feel unsafe” to alert our team. In an emergency, call 911; Clavesta doesn’t dispatch help.
Use Clavesta for real deals
In short: Clavesta is for buying and selling homes, not for selling services.
- No advertising, spam, lead generation, or promoting your own services.
- Don’t act as an unlicensed agent, broker or loan originator for someone else, and don’t charge other members fees for introductions.
- Don’t use Clavesta to find sellers for wholesaling or assignment schemes, or to make offers you don’t intend to close.
- No scraping, bots or bulk messaging.
Report a problem
In short: tell us; the other person isn’t notified.
- In a conversation, use More options > Report conversation, or long-press a message and choose Report this message.
- For anything else, use Report a problem in the app or email support@clavesta.com.
- You can also report housing discrimination to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) or your state’s fair housing agency.
How we enforce
In short: automatic checks plus human review, with consequences that fit the problem.
Automated tools, including AI, check every message and interest note before it’s delivered, and our team reviews flags and reports. Depending on what happened, we may deliver a message with a safety note, block or hide it, unpublish a listing, limit features, suspend an account, or close it permanently. Serious violations, such as fraud, threats or discrimination, can lead to immediate suspension, and we may report illegal activity to the authorities. If you think we got it wrong, write to support@clavesta.com and a different team member will review your appeal. See our Terms of Use for the full rules.
